The Eyes of March (2012)

I love eye shots. And for the past few years I've used March 15 to celebrate them (2009, 2010, 2011).

This year we have a collection of 15 total "eye shot" images, with at least one from the past seven decades! Some of them, perhaps most of them, you'll identify easily. Others ... we'll see ...

The "Eyes of March" is meant first and foremost as a tribute to eye shots, but over the years it's become a fun guessing game, too. I've numbered the images below (consider the image above number "0") so readers can identify the eye shots in the comments.

Enjoy! (Numbers correspond to the image below them.)

  1. My brain hasn't kicked in yet, but I'm pretty sure #3 is Melanie Laurent in INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS. Oh, maybe #1 too: Matthew Broderick in ELECTION. One more, #4: REPULSION?

  2. I'm with Craig on the Inglourious Basterds guess. Is #6 Kirsten Dunst in Melancholia?

  3. #2 is Ezra Miller in 'We need to talk about Kevin'. I just so happened to watch it last night.

  4. #2 is Ezra Miller from 'We need to talk about Kevin'. I just so happened I watched it last night, couldn't forget those eyes that quickly.

  5. #1 - David Duchovny in the X-Files movie? I seem to remember there being some bee business.

#13 - Will Ferrell in Anchorman.

#14 - Richard Dreyfuss in Jaws.

And #11 is killing me! Can't quite place it.

  6. 5 looks like Emma Stone, but I don't know from which movie

    10 is Nixon

11 is Silence of the Lambs?

    12 is Public Enemies

    14 is The Thing?

  7. Ah. Someone already guessed the last one. Jaws makes more sense then The Thing.

By the way, I always love this feature, Jason. Your first image is one of my favorite moments from any Alexander Payne movie. Hehe.

  8. Oof I'm terrible at this. Is #7 Pam Grier? #3 is definitely Inglourious Basterds but otherwise I'd be inclined to guess Jackie Brown for #7.

#12 reminds me of Michael Stuhlbarg.

  9. Oh yeah, Kevin's probably right about 12. Depp, Stuhlbarg, same thing.

  11. The eyes in # 11 kind of look like De Niro. A De Niro with some face make-up.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Yep! Good job, Anon! Someone take it the rest of the way!

    ReplyDelete
  13. #9 That's kind of Amanda Seyfried-y, no??

    ReplyDelete
  14. BTW... the last 2 Anons are me (Mark O., "Fox", etc.). For some reason I can't figure out how to sign in to this blogger thing anymore.

    -Mark.

  15. Is the Kirsten Dunst look-alike eye the young girl killed in the street from Opening Night?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Frankenstein De Niro?

    -Mark

    ReplyDelete
  17. Fox/Mark! Nice!

As for your second guess, it's a good one, but nope. But it is a young actress in a recent film.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Ah! # is Saorise Ronan in Hanna?

  23. # 7 - Pam Grier - "Coffy"?

    -Mark

    ReplyDelete
  24. BTW ... If you post anonymously and your comment doesn't officially appear, just know that Blogger is sorting all anon comments into my spam folder at the moment. So I'll approve it; I just might not see it right away.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Not Coffy, but STILL on the right track ... getting warmer!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Wild guess for #8: Pleasantville? Horrible, I know it's not right, but that one is really bugging me.

    ReplyDelete
  27. And I meant initially appear, not officially appear. Ugh. Trying to do too many things at once.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Nope on Pleasantville, but glad you were brave enough to try!

No. 8 is by far the hardest one in here, so hint time ...

It's the oldest eye shot of the bunch, made in 1959; and it's not an American movie.

    ReplyDelete
  29. # 8 is bugging me too...

Like Sheila, I'll toss one out... Max Von Sydow in "The Virgin Spring"?

And sorry for the irritating "Anon" thing. My computer at work is really jacked up... probablty because they're trying to prevent me from doing this type of stuff while at work. :)

  30. Like Sheila, I'll toss one out... Max Von Sydow in "The Virgin Spring"?

Amazingly good guess, submitted before my previous post. But nope.

    ReplyDelete
  31. # 8 - Le Beau Serge?

    -Mark.

    ReplyDelete
  33. #11 - Robert DeNiro in ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA

    ReplyDelete

    13) Anchorman

  36. No. 8 is Nobi, aka Fires on the Plain! Winner-winner!

    Nice job, Lara!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Alas, no. It's been 24 hours, so I'll give a blatant hint ...

If you kinda sorta combined the first two guesses (Jackie Brown and Coffy), you'd get this other very famous titular role ...

    ReplyDelete
  38. Ah, well, FOXY BROWN seemed too obvious, but...

    ReplyDelete
  39. And there it is!

The irony is that the eye shot comes from the opening credits of Foxy Brown, so the title and the eye shot are married.

Nice job, everyone. Thanks for playing. This is a fun tradition.
