The Eyes of March (2013)

It's been awhile.

Last month I let my five-year blogging anniversary pass by without notice, or without a single blog post.

But nothing brings back a blogger like tradition — and it doesn't hurt when said tradition requires very little writing.

And thus continues my annual tribute to eye shots (see also: 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012).

This year, including the header image (which you can consider number "0"), there are 13 eye shots. As usual, some of them are easily recognizable. Others not so much.

Although this is a tribute to eye shots more than anything, it tends to be a fun guessing game each year, too. So leave your guesses in the comments below.

Enjoy! (Numbers correspond to the image below them)

I guess I'll get the ball rolling with the easy (?) ones.

3. William Hurt in BODY HEAT (???)
6. Peter O'Toole in LAWRENCE OF ARABIA
7. Of course, I know who this is, but what film?
8. Al Pacino in CARLITO'S WAY
9. Brandon Routh in SUPERMAN RETURNS
10. Robert Forster in JACKIE BROWN
11. Liz Taylor in WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF?
12. a wolf in WOLF

Although I feel quicker in vaguely recognizing most of these this year, I'm slower in pin-pointing them. So I'll just hang back this time. Happy blog birthday/anniversary, however!

I'll just go for the ones that others haven't guessed on yet. Although, I will say that on number 3 I thought John Cusack before I looked at Tony's answer...and William Hurt seems more on target than my initial guess.

1. Psycho (Gus Van Sant's version) (?)

3. Looks like John Cusack...can't figure out the movie, though. Or maybe I'm way off and Tony's right...it could be William Hurt from Body Heat.

4. no idea

5. The Sandlot (wasn't there a kid that wore glasses like that?) or Simon Birch (again, the glasses).

7. Jack Nicholson...don't know the movie.

I think Tony nailed most of these, though.

Thanks for playing, gang. Let's see how we've done ...

7) Yes, it's Nicholson. Keep guessing.
8) CARLITO'S WAY (credit Tony)
9) SUPERMAN RETURNS (credit Tony)
10) JACKIE BROWN (credit Tony)
11) ...VIRGINIA WOOLF (credit Tony)

So still in play are ...

1, 4, 6, 7 (though you've got the right idea) and 12

I'll provide hints tomorrow if no one comes up with them today.

Is the Jack Nicholson one A FEW GOOD MEN? It doesn't look haggard enough to be ABOUT SCHMIDT Nicholson, but that was my other thought. Again, I'm so bad at these, so I hate to just throw random titles. I'll leave it those that actually know to make a guess.

Nice work, Hokahey. You've correctly identified 6 and 12.

And rather than wait until we run through Jack Nicholson's entire career, I'll go ahead and identify No. 7 as from THE PLEDGE.

That makes the list ...

0) THE GREY (credit Stacia)
1)
2) WITNESS (credit Stacia)
3) BODY HEAT (credit Tony)
4)
5) THE SANDLOT (credit Kevin)
6) SPIRIT OF ST. LOUIS (credit Hokahey)
7) THE PLEDGE
8) CARLITO'S WAY (credit Tony)
9) SUPERMAN RETURNS (credit Tony)
10) JACKIE BROWN (credit Tony)
11) ...VIRGINIA WOOLF (credit Tony)
12) DANCES WITH WOLVES (credit Hokahey)

So, hints ...

No. 1: I'll be pretty specific here since there's little in the image to work with. It's from an early Haneke film.

No. 4: This is from a 2012 film, and in fact is from just before one of the best scenes of the past year. (Hokahey, you should be able to get this one.)

Thanks for all the guesses!

4. ANNA KARENINA

Jason Bellamy said...

Bingo! It's actually one of at least three eye shots in the sequence. The others being Anna looking toward the stage with her opera glasses and her husband looking at her with his.

Craig said...

My first thought was that #6 was LAWRENCE OF ARABIA, followed by a second thought that it was actually Michael Fassbender in X-MEN: FIRST CLASS. SPIRIT OF ST. LOUIS was dirty pool, JB. Well played!

Early Haneke: Jeez, I dunno. I guess either BENNY'S VIDEO (never seen it) or the original FUNNY GAMES.
